    Title:Dual Attention-Based 3D U-Net Liver Segmentation Algorithm on CT Images

    Abstract:The liver is a vital organ in the human body, and CT images can intuitively display its morphology. Physicians rely on liver CT images to observe its anatomical structure and areas of pathology, providing evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment planning. To assist physicians in making accurate judgments, artificial intelligence techniques are adopted. Addressing the limitations of existing methods in liver CT image segmentation, such as weak contextual analysis and semantic information loss, we propose a novel Dual Attention-Based 3D U-Net liver segmentation algorithm on CT images. The innovations of our approach are summarized as follows: (1) We improve the 3D U-Net network by introducing residual connections to better capture multi-scale information and alleviate semantic information loss. (2) We propose the DA-Block encoder structure to enhance feature extraction capability. (3) We introduce the CBAM module into skip connections to optimize feature transmission in the encoder, reducing semantic gaps and achieving accurate liver segmentation. To validate the effectiveness of the algorithm, experiments were conducted on the LiTS dataset. The results showed that the Dice coefficient and HD95 index for liver images were 92.56% and 28.09 mm, respectively, representing an improvement of 0.84% and a reduction of 2.45 mm compared to 3D Res-UNet.

    Abstract:Leveraging space-based optical platforms for space debris and defunct spacecraft detection presents several advantages, including a wide detection range, immunity to cloud cover, and the ability to maintain continuous surveillance on space targets. As a result, it has become an essential approach for accomplishing tasks related to space situational awareness. However, the prediction of the orbits of space objects is crucial for the success of such missions, and current technologies face challenges related to accuracy, reliability, and practical efficiency. These challenges limit the performance of space-based optical space situational awareness systems. To drive progress in this field and establish a more effective and reliable space situational awareness system based on space optical platforms, this paper conducts a retrospective overview of research advancements in this area. It explores the research landscape of orbit determination methods, encompassing orbit association methods, initial orbit determination methods, and precise orbit determination methods, providing insights from international perspectives. The article concludes by highlighting key research areas, challenges, and future trends in current space situational awareness systems and orbit determination methods.

    Abstract:Active reflectors are often used to compensate the surface distortion caused by environmental factors that degrade the electromagnetic performance of large high-frequency reflector antennas. This is crucial for maintaining high gain operation in antennas. A distortion compensation method for the active reflector of a large dual-reflector antenna is proposed. A relationship is established between the surface deformation and the optical path difference for the primary reflector by geometric optics. Subsequently, employing finite element analysis, a polynomial fitting approach is used to describe the impact of adjusting points on the reflector surface based on the coordinates of each node. By standardizing the positions of various panels on the reflector, the fitting ns can be applied to the reflector panels of similar shapes. Then, based on the distribution characteristics of the primary reflector panels, the adjustment equation for the actuators is derived by the influence matrix method. It can be used to determine the adjustment amount of actuators to reduce the rms of the optical path difference. And, the least squares method is employed to resolve the matrix equation. The example of a 110 m aperture dual-reflector antenna is carried out by finite element analysis and the proposed method. The results show that the optical path difference is reduced significantly at various elevation cases, which indicates that the proposed method is effective.

    Abstract:In the past few years, annular structured beams have been extensively studied due to their unique doughnut structure and characteristics such as phase and polarization vortices. Especially in the 2 mu m wavelength range, they have shown promising applications in fields such as novel laser communication, optical processing, and quantum information processing. In this Letter, we observed basis vector patterns with orthogonality and completeness by finely cavity-mode tailoring with end-mirror space position in a Tm:CaYAlO4 4 laser. Multiple annular structured beams including azimuthally, linearly, and radially polarized beams (APB, LPB, and RPB) operated at a Q-switched mode- locking (QML) state with a typical output power of similar to 18 mW around 1962 nm. Further numerical simulation proved that the multiple annular structured beams are the coherent superposition of different Hermitian Gaussian modes. Using a self-made M-Z interferometer, we have demonstrated that the obtained multiple annular beams have a vortex phase with orbital angular momentum (OAM) of l = +/- 1. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first observation of vector and scalar annular vortex beams in the 2 mu m solid-state laser. (c) 2024 Optica Publishing Group

    Abstract:We demonstrate the low noise operation of a figure-9 1.5- mu m Er:fiber laser constructed by all polarizationmaintaining (PM) fiber and fiber components. Starting from the original rate equations and nonlinear Schro dinger equation, the cavity roundtrip evolution toward stable mode locking state is present. The radio frequency spectrum shows a 94.6-MHz fundamental repetition rate with up to 100 dB high signal-to-noise ratio. The net dispersion is tailored to near zero by incorporating and optimizing the length of PM dispersioncompensating fiber in the cavity. As a result, an integrated root-mean-square relative intensity noise of 0.0026 % [1 Hz, 1 MHz] and 10.8-fs timing jitter [100 Hz, 1 MHz] at the fundamental repetition rate are measured. We also lock the fundamental repetition frequency to a stable radio frequency reference and an inloop relative stability of 2.1 x 10-12 at 1-s gate time is obtained.

    Abstract:Differential phase shift keying (DPSK) signals are widely employed in optical communication systems due to the high sensitivity and simple self-delay interference demodulation scheme. In this paper, we demonstrate a broadband on-chip Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) for multiple channel DPSK signal demodulation. The chip is constructed using a single -mode high-index doped silica glass waveguide with fiber-to-fiber insert loss less than 3 dB and small second-order dispersion. The MZI interference fringe extinction ratio is over 25 dB in the range of C- and L -bands. The MZI is employed to demodulate four parallel DPSK signals simultaneously with similar performance, indicating that the broad bandwidth MZI is suitable for a receiver of massive parallel optical communications.

    Abstract:Based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR), we proposed a tunable chalcogenide solid-core anti-resonant fiber (SC-ARF) polarization filter. The purpose of introducing the SPR, which is excited by coating the inner wall of the cladding tubes with a gold film, is to achieve a discrepancy between the confinement loss of two polarized fundamental modes (FMs). The full-vector finite element method (FV-FEM) evaluates the impact of fiber core radius, cladding tube radius, cladding tube wall thickness, and gold film thickness on the polarization filter characteristics. The results show that when the thickness of the gold film is 30 nm and the fiber length is 4 mm, the filter bandwidth can simultaneously cover the S + C + L optical communication band and reach 248 nm, and the extinction ratio (ER) value reaches -377.46 dB. Moreover, we also confirmed the tuning effect of the goldcoated cladding tube wall thickness on the resonance wavelength. The proposed fiber polarization filter has potential application value in optical fiber communication and transmission.

    Abstract:Pulsed fiber lasers with high repetition rates play a crucial role in applications such as high-efficiency processing and bio-optical imaging. However, many ring fiber mode-locked lasers primarily focus on shortening the cavity length to achieve high repetition rate pulse output. Attention is often directed towards the gain fiber and cavity structure, with less consideration given to the challenge of increasing mode-locking threshold power. In this study, we present a high-repetition-rate annular all-fiber laser system with dispersion management. Through strategic adjustment of the intracavity dispersion away from the near-zero dispersion region and careful control of the intracavity gain strength, we have successfully lowered the mode-locking threshold power. This approach can generate pulses with a repetition rate of 439.71 MHz and a mode-locking threshold power of approximately 600 mW. Following pulse compression, the achieved pulse width is 94.8 fs. Its time-bandwidth product is 0.368. To our knowledge, this represents the highest fundamental repetition rate currently attained using a ring all-fiber resonator, accompanied by the lowest mode-locking threshold. Our work introduces a ring fiber laser system characterized by a low mode-locking threshold and a high repetition rate, offering a valuable method for achieving higher fundamental repetition rate pulses.

    Abstract:Patterning of metal thin films on glass-ceramics with high quality is very important, but challenging, in electronic devices manufacturing. Femtosecond laser direct writing system with a Dove prism offers possibility for high quality structuring of transparent conductors on glass-ceramics and other substrates. The laser pulses movement and overlap distributions of the Dove prism laser system were investigated. The threshold and energy distribution with defocus distances for the metal thin film and glass ceramic were measured and calculated. The experiments demonstrated a clean removal of the metal thin film with a bottom roughness of 0.06 mu m and a removal depth of the substrate less than 0.5 mu m. The impedance was measured to be higher than 416 G Omega under 1000 V static electricity in the atmospheric environment.

    Abstract:In imaging spectrometers, area array detectors are usually used as photoelectric conversion devices, but the inconsistency of the spectral response among pixels can distort the collected target spectra. To improve the spectral radiometric accuracy of imaging spectrometers, calibrating and correcting the inconsistency of the spectral response among pixels is essential. The signal received by each pixel of area array detector of the indirect imaging spectrometer is usually the superposition of the target multi-spectral radiation signals or full-spectral radiation signals. Therefore, its relative spectral radiometric calibration requires measuring the spectral response of each pixel at different wavelengths on the array detector. Under the ideal conditions, the response values of each pixel in the area array detector are different, so the indirect imaging spectrometer cannot simply calibrate the relative spectral response (RSR) function between pixels by using the method of monochromator + integrating sphere. In this work, taking the interferometric imaging spectrometer for example, we analyze the influence of the inconsistency of the RSR among pixels on the target spectral radiation measurement accuracy, and propose a system-level RSR function measurement method for the indirect imaging spectrometer based on the Fourier transform modulation calibration source. In addition, we establish a mathematical model for calibrating the RSR function,and provide guidelines for selecting calibration system parameters such as light source, spectral resolution, and OPD sampling interval. The simulation results show that under the ideal noise-free condition, the 1% spectral response inconsistency among pixels results in a relative error of 1.02% to the recovered spectra. After RSR correction, the relative error of the recovered spectra of different rows decreases to 0.08%. Furthermore, in this work we simulate and analyse the influence of spectral signal-to-noise ratio on the calibration accuracy of the RSR function, and point out that increasing the brightness of the calibration light source, extending exposure time, and combining multi-frame interferograms can enhance RSR function calibration accuracy in practical applications. The research result can provide a theoretical basis for realizing the relative spectral radiometric calibration of indirect imaging spectrometer, which is of great significance in promoting quantitative spectral remote sensing.

    Abstract:Aim: To explore multiple features of attention impairments in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Methods: A total of 93 patients diagnosed with TLE at Xiangya Hospital during May 2022 and December 2022 and 85 healthy controls were included in this study. Participants were asked to complete neuropsychological scales and attention network test (ANT) with recording of eye-tracking and electroencephalogram. Results: All means of evaluation showed impaired attention functions in TLE patients. ANT results showed impaired orienting (p < 0.001) and executive control (p = 0.041) networks. Longer mean first saccade time (p = 0.046) and more total saccadic counts (p = 0.035) were found in eye-tracking results, indicating abnormal alerting and orienting networks. Both alerting, orienting and executive control networks were abnormal, manifesting as decreased amplitudes (N1 & P3, p < 0.001) and extended latency (P3, p = 0.002). The energy of theta, alpha and beta were all sensitive to the changes of alerting and executive control network with time, but only beta power was sensitive to the changes of orienting network. Conclusion: Our findings are helpful for early identification of patients with TLE combined with attention impairments, which have strong clinical guiding significance for long-term monitoring and intervention.

    Abstract:The momentum distribution of photoelectrons in H2+ molecules subjected to an attosecond pulse is theoretically investigated. To better understand the laser-molecule interaction, we develop an in-line photoelectron holography approach that is analogous to optical holography. This approach is specifically suitable for extracting the amplitude and phase of the forward-scattered electron wave packet in a dissociating molecule with atomic precision. We also extend this approach to imaging the transient scattering cross-section of a molecule dressed by a near infrared laser field. This attosecond photoelectron holography sheds light on structural microscopy of dissociating molecules with high spatial-temporal resolution. A novel method based on single photon ionization can retrieve structural dynamics of dissociating molecules by combining photoelectron holography and an attosecond pulse.
